Prescriptions
All NHS and UK private prescriptions can be dispensed at the pharmacy.
The vast majority of prescription items are held in stock. Any items that are not in stock can be ordered in, usually for same day or next day delivery to the pharmacy.
Please telephone the pharmacy to check if we have your medicine in stock - we are happy to place orders before we receive the prescription so your medicine is ready waiting on the shelf for you. We do our best to reduce the cost of your prescriptions.
If an item can be bought without a prescription for less than a prescription charge we will tell you.
We will also tell you if we think a prepayment certificate would save you money. These cost less than four prescription charges for a 4 month certificate and less than ten charges for a 12 month certificate. (Up to March 2010 £13 for 4 months, £38 for 12 months, charges will be lower from April 2010)
Prescription Collection Service
We would love to have your prescription ready on the shelf for you to collect at your convenience, including Saturdays. Please phone the pharmacy on 01340 871 279 (two lines) to request your repeat prescription.
We will then put the request to Aberlour Medical Practice* and gather together your medication into a basket labelled with your name. This means that we can spot if we don’t have enough stock on the shelf and get it ordered and delivered before you come in, so you need never know we were short of stock – we hate having to ask you to come back for part of your prescription.
The prescription collection service gives us time to dispense your prescription calmly, without the pressure of a queue waiting to be served. We can ask the GP if we have any queries we have about the prescription without delaying you or other customers.
Prescriptions have to be checked by the pharmacist before they can be bagged up. The NHS is asking the pharmacist to deliver many more services, including smoking cessation support, free treatment for minor ailments, emergency contraception, etc. We don’t want you to have to wait for the pharmacist to finish a consultation before your prescription is checked.
The prescription collection service ensures your prescription can be handed straight to you as long as the pharmacist is somewhere in the building!
Before we can collect your prescription we need to get a copy of your signed consent to the medical practice, to show we have your permission to collect your prescription. The consent form can be collected from the pharmacy or downloaded here. Please sign it and return it to the pharmacy. We will then photocopy it, keep one copy in the dispensary and send the other to the medical practice.
We have prepared a chart that shows when your prescription will be ready to collect from the pharmacy. You can download it here to put with your medicines, or stick on your fridge!

Repeat prescriptions
We now have more than 700 patients signed up to our repeat prescription collection service.
It is really improving the service we can offer customers: We very rarely have to ask these patients to come back for part of their prescription. These patients do not have to wait for the pharmacist to finish a consultation before their prescription is checked and handed out. People feeling unwell and needing advice or medicines from the pharmacist do not have to wait while a repeat prescription is dispensed.
Just ask for a form at the pharmacy if you would like us to pick up your prescription while we are collecting all the others!
