Prescriptions

All NHS and UK private and veterinary prescriptions can be dispensed at the pharmacy.

The vast majority of prescription items are held in stock. Any items that are not in stock can be ordered in, usually for same day or next day delivery to the pharmacy.

Please telephone the pharmacy to check if we have your medicine in stock - we are happy to place orders before we receive the prescription so your medicine is ready waiting on the shelf for you.

We do our best to reduce the cost of your prescriptions.

If an item can be bought without a prescription for less than a prescription charge we will tell you.

We will also tell you if we think a prepayment certificate would save you money. These cost less than four prescription charges for a 4 month certificate (£10 for 4 months, each prescription is £3). Prescription charges will be abolished in Scotland from 1st April 2011.

All prescriptions are checked by the pharmacist for safety and accuracy.

The pharmacist checks that:

  • All the prescribed medicines agree with each other
  • That the doses are appropriate
  • That each medicine is OK with the illnesses that the patient has (the pharmacist knows these from the medicines prescribed)
  • That the formulation is appropriate (soluble for people with swallowing difficulties, not EC for people with stomas, etc) and can also give advice about which “over the counter” medicines can be taken with the prescribed medicines.

Repeat Prescription Collection Service

We now have more than 700 patients signed up to our repeat prescription collection service.

It is really improving the service we can offer customers: We very rarely have to ask these patients to come back for part of their prescription. These patients do not have to wait for the pharmacist to finish a consultation before their prescription is checked and handed out. People feeling unwell and needing advice or medicines from the pharmacist do not have to wait while a repeat prescription is dispensed.

Just ask for a form at the pharmacy if you would like us to pick up your prescription while we are collecting all the others!

Stoma / Continence products

Aberlour Pharmacy keeps in stock the products that our regular customers use.

Most other items can be obtained within 24 hours.

Please telephone the pharmacy as soon as you think you might bring in a prescription, even before it is ready at the medical centre so we can start the ordering process – for example if you have a letter from the hospital with the codes of your new bags, etc. All prescriptions are bagged up and handed out discreetly, and the consultation room is available if you need to discuss your prescription with the pharmacist.
